Prt. Colin "Paddy" Harmer

Prt. Colin “Paddy “Harmer, formerly of the Royal Berkshire Regiment, served in No.4 Troop of No.6 Commando, as the Troop Medical Orderly.

Prt. Colin Harmer was Killed In Action (KIA) by a sniper’s shot to the back whilst he was clearly attending to wounded men in the field, on 11th April 1945, aged 20 years.

“Paddy” Hamer was described as a Gentle Giant of a man by Len Reed.

He was the son of William Charles and Ruth Harmer, of Methley, Yorkshire. Colin was laid to rest in Celle War Cemetery (Celle, Niederschsen, Germany) Grave 3.F.5.

The inscription on his headstone reads:

‘With others for others.’
